The Summer Gala is the biggest and most important fundraiser of the year for IYRS. As one of the main events of Newport in the summer, the Gala attracts a high demographic audience and has been called Newport's largest gathering of exceptional people; a great crowd for a very important educational cause. The Gala raises about 40% of our annual operating costs the night of the event! Not everyone in America should go to a degree school, and IYRS is proof of an alternative: 90% of grads go to great jobs – from major marine trades companies to technology companies like Autodesk and Google X. Support us as we help change learning in America.

About IYRS School of Technology & Trades

IYRS provides world-class experiential education, preparing students to enter a global maker and manufacturing workforce. IYRS teaches the art and science of making, building, restoring and maintaining, and in the process, helps its graduates build both careers and more meaningful lives – inspired by the knowledge that in their hands and through the use of technology, they have the power to build almost anything.

IYRS students work with the widest range of materials and tools – from hand and power tools to advanced technology, including design software and state-of-the-art systems like 3D printers, CNC routers, and laser cutters.

Building or restoring things is the essence of creativity, productivity, human spirit, and even community. We are driven to do this kind of activity, and to celebrate the associated art, science and knowledge – the ability to work and think through our hands or through the use of technology.

Enter IYRS, a school founded upon an experiential education model – a model that prepares highly technical and deeply craft-oriented people to work with a range of materials, and to maintain a range of systems, to help industry and the individual. In a nutshell, that education is this: students immersed, both body and spirit, with a team equally dedicated to transforming materials into useful, lasting things, and in so doing transforming their lives and careers. At IYRS, students learn to make, restore and maintain things with a heightened sense of purpose and craft, becoming truly in demand across industries. In the process, they build more meaningful lives, satisfied and inspired in the knowledge that, in their hands, they have the power to build almost anything.
