PowerDocks, LLC launches their Blue Isles™ platform here in Newport Harbor. With the support from the office of Gina Raimondo, RI Commerce Corporation and the city of Newport the Blue isles prototype has officially been launched.
Blue Isles™ is the first aquatic microgrid platform built to power and recharge electric marine propulsion vessels using solar power. Its 8 solar panels will provide free solar generated electrical power and free Wi-Fi to vessels docked within 300 feet of the floating platform. It will be used as a drone launch pad and recharge station during filming of regattas and other local events. It holds 40 gallons of fresh water with a hose attached for easy use. Blue Isles™ will be moored in the public anchorage area South of the Goat Island causeway on a city mooring.
Newport Chamber of Commerce president Erin Boyle-Donovan hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony. Some faces in attendance included David Hanos a native Newporter running for a State Senate seat. Darin Early who serves as the President of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation. Darin presented Anthony and Chris with a certificate from the Governors office congratulating PowerDocks LLC on being the first innovator to introduce the floating microgrid. Newports Mayor Harry Winthrop in speaking about Newports partnership with Blue Isles™ said,
